1st Timothy 4v16 Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.

Doctrine influences the way that we believe in God, and there are many doctrines out there, so we need to test every spirit (1st John 4v1). If a believer follows everything they hear out there, they will end up with doctrines of men or of demons (Colossians 2v22; 1st Timothy 4v1). Therefore, sound doctrine is one of the key things in a life of any believer, otherwise we can start in the spirit and end up in the flesh simply because we were taught a wrong doctrine (Galatians 3v1; 5v7).

It is not only about who we believe in, but also what we believe in and how we believe in it. Jesus said, “…Take heed what you hear…” Mark 4v24 and “ …take heed how you hear…” Luke 8v18. As we receive sound doctrine for ourselves, it is also important that we pass on the same to the next generation. Paul said to Timothy, “2 And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also… 16 But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness. 17 And their message will spread like cancer. Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort, 18 who have strayed concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some.” 2nd Timothy 2.

PROPHETIC DECLARATION: May you continue in sound and good doctrine, in Jesus’ name!

“Dear heavenly Father, thank you for Your Holy Spirit in me, who helps me to discern every spirit behind any teaching I hear….”
